VP of Development

Serves as a strategist for all philanthropic fundraising for institutional prospects and leadership donors. Develops and implements a comprehensive Development strategy aligned with the organization's goals and mission. Collaborates with senior leadership to integrate the Development goals into the overall organizational strategy. Acts as the main point of contact for corporations and foundations seeking partnerships with Boys Town.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive fundraising plan for the organization.

  • Develops and implements fundraising plans that include major gifts, corporate and foundation giving, planned giving, and special events.

  • Acts as the primary point of contact for foundation philanthropy and responsible for staying current with new trends and gift acceptance policies in foundation relations.

  • Advises leadership and other Development colleagues of evolving processes that affect philanthropic success and ensures that foundation gift acceptance and processing practices are compliant with these trends and policies.

  • Manages, develops, and leads a team of fundraising professionals, including setting goals, expectations, and monitoring individual team members providing feedback to ensure fundraising goals are met or exceeded.

  • Oversees the team’s efforts to maximize funding and proactively seeks new opportunities while adhering to complex compliance issues in gift designation and administration.

  • Collaborates with the marketing and communications teams to develop compelling messaging and materials to support fundraising efforts.

  • Works closely with the CEO and the National Board to develop strategies and goals that align with the mission and values.

  • Fosters a culture of “one Boys Town” and carries out Boys Town's mission through leadership, trust, honest and open dialogues, transparency, and embracing diversity.

  • Aligns the Development organization to support service delivery in an effective and quality manner with appropriate decision latitude.

  • Creates professional relationships based upon mutual respect, accountability, and Boys Town's mission.

  • Develops a set of consistent metrics to measure project and performance effectiveness.

  • Identifies and articulates talent gaps, succession plans, spans of control, and titling.

  • Develops and executes business plans focused on the "One Boys Town" mission, taking into account the values and principles of Boys Town and regulatory compliance.

  • Develops and implements short- and long-term plans, budgets and reporting to document outcomes.

  • Provides outstanding leadership and communicates effectively across the organization and with senior management to achieve goals.

  • Attracts, develops, and leads high-performing team members, empowering them to excel in their roles.

  • Demonstrates a personal commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, fostering a workplace that values diverse perspectives and embraces differences.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to oversee and foster innovative use of stewardship and fundraising strategies.

  • Ability to create and execute programs that meet the organization’s goals.

  • Proficiency with writing and synthesizing complex and abstract topics into proposals – translating institutional and campaign priorities to capital needs into a compelling case for support.

  • Knowledge of strategic planning, resource allocation, and leadership techniques.

  • Knowledge of non-profit administration, fiscal, and organizational management, and administration of grants and donations.

  • Expert level knowledge of Boys Town’s model, the programs, and implementation; knowledge of regulatory requirements pertaining to youth care.

  • Ability to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders internally and externally while maintaining necessary degree of integrity and confidentiality.

  • Ability to speak publicly as an organizational expert.

  • Ability to collaborate between departments, communicate and to align strategies to achieve the mission.

  • Demonstrated integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed with a passion for the organization.

  • Ability to motivate and develop leaders across all areas of responsibility.

  • Strong conflict management skills to align all facets of the organization to serve the mission and to deal with difficult problems and challenges.

  • Strong work ethic with a clear commitment to the organization, ownership, and a willingness to take on challenges internally and externally.

  • Ability to develop and meet budgets.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree required.

  • Minimum twelve years of relevant development experience required.

  • Available to travel as needed required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree preferred.
