Orthopaedic Technologist

In a career as an Orthopaedic Technologist, you join us in providing life-changing care to patients from across the region. In this role, you will deliver patient care and assumes appropriate responsibilities concerning all Orthopaedic procedures. Perform a variety of tasks including the application and removal of casts and splints, application of Orthopaedic devices and removal of external Orthopaedic hardware.
Schedule: Full-Time, 8:30 AM-5:00 PM Monday-Friday
Location: Pacific Street Clinic
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
- Assists physicians and nursing staff with Orthopaedic casting procedures to include the application and removal of a variety of casts and splints.
- Performs under the direction of the physician, routine examinations and treatment procedures to include removing casts, cleaning wounds and applying dressings.
- Assists under the direction of a physician in the clinical care of patients, including: application of mobilization or immobilization devices. Application of braces, prosthetics, orthotics and othoses. Adjustment of braces, prosthetics, orthotics and orthoses. Fitting and adjustment of canes, crutches and walkers. Wound care, removal of wound closure materials (staples, sutures and the application and removal of sterile and non-sterile dressings.
- Collects patient history to include reason for visit, allergies, medications and medical history.
- Maintain work area in clean and orderly condition. Set up and prepare examination rooms. Set up instruments and equipment for specific procedures.
- Provides direct care to patients and families in area of practice.
- Provides telephone assistance as related to duties and responsibilities.
- Attends required staff meetings, continuing education and mandatory in-services in relevant practice area.
- Demonstrates initiative, accountability and efficient use of time and materials. This includes knowledge, self-direction, accountability, and ability to function within institutional policies, philosophies, and procedures.
- Promotes patient advocacy which assures patients' rights to privacy, safety, and confidentiality.
- Demonstrates flexibility in adapting to changes in policies or procedures.
- Promotes a positive team environment. Willingly floats to satellite clinics to fulfill required staffing needs.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Graduate of an accredited Orthopaedic Technology program required.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a hospital, clinic, office or working directly in the treatment of Orthopaedic patients required.
- BLS certification required.
- Working knowledge of using a personal computer and electronic medical records required.
