The Youth Safety Audit Department is an independent department which functions to examine, evaluate and report on the adequacy and effectiveness of the systems designed to ensure youth safety and the protection of youth rights in adherence with Boys Town’s standards of care. The Department is unique to Boys Town and critical to the success of our Organization. The Youth Safety Audit Director position reports directly to the SVP, Legal & General Counsel and has dotted-line reporting responsibility to the Youth Care Committee of the Boys Town National Board of Trustees.

An ideal candidate will have excellent strategic planning skills, strong written and verbal communications skills and the interpersonal skills to work with employees at all levels of a diverse organization.  He or she will have experience managing a team of people, a sound understanding of the budgeting and financial management aspects of overseeing a department and a knack for analyzing data. Characteristics of integrity, independent thinking and initiative are essential.  Experience working directly with or on behalf of at-risk youth is a plus.   

Other Duties:

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership to the Youth Safety Department and the Boys Town organization as concerns issues and standards relating to youth safety;

  • Evaluate current youth safety systems; recommend, design and implement additional systems as needed to ensure reliability;

  • Provide informative quarterly assessments to the Youth Care Committee of the National Board of Trustees regarding youth safety risks, practices, systems and trends

  • Identify and/or update needed technology platforms which support youth safety systems;

  • Continually research, evaluate and educate the Organization on industry trends/best practices for youth safety;

  • Conduct and/or supervise audits and investigations related to youth safety;

  • Direct, supervise, coach and evaluate Program Audit staff

  • Advocate for a “Culture of Safety” throughout the organization

  • as with employees across all levels of the Boys Town organization;

  • Ability to build and develop relationships while maintaining an appropriate level of professional objectivity, integrity and independence of thought;

  • Knowledge and experience of auditing and/or investigation standards and procedures;

  • Ability to translate complex data into understandable conclusions and recommendations;

  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.

Required Education, Training, Experience

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in field such as Business, Health Care, Social Services, Education or the equivalent. Master's degree is preferred.

  • 5 to 7 years of post-college work experience to include management of people or a function is preferred.

  • Experience in implementing organization wide change initiatives is preferred.

  • Experience related to risk and/or the assessment of safety functions is preferred.

  • Experience in youth centered occupations or industries such as child welfare or education is preferred

  • Available to travel is necessary.
