Job Summary:
The Speech Language Pathologist assesses, diagnoses, and helps clients and students to prevent disorders related to speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, swallowing, and fluency. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provides evaluation and service plans for students with communication disorders.
  • Identifies and evaluates communication disorders; develops and implements individualized plans for students to improve voices and language skills.
  • Records and analyzes speech, language, and swallowing irregularities.
  • Selects augmentative or alternative communication methods.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records as required by laws, policies, and regulations.
  • Maintains and implements behavioral protocols; observes and evaluates student behavior, performance, social development, and physical health.
  • Supports school-related extracurricular activities.
  • Maintains positive professional communications with parents, guardians, administration, and colleagues regarding progress and concerns.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology; properly endorsed and certified
  • A current Nebraska Teacher Certificate with an endorsement in Speech-Language Pathology
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech Hearing Association.
  • Previous experience administering and interpreting a wide range of diagnostic test materials and remedy services.
  • Knowledge of state policies, statutes, and procedures on education and regulations of Nebraska.
  • Ability to diagnose the nature and extent of impairment.
  • Ability to modify or adapt general education curriculum.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professional competence via in-service education, self-selected professional education, and curriculum development.
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to the use of a behavioral approach to motivate student learning.
  • Ability to demonstrate concern and respect for individual students.
