Research Technologist Sensory Neuroscience

Performs work of considerable difficulty in various phases of research studies being performed, from initial selection of research subjects to data plotting and write-ups of results.


  • Maintains appropriate animal husbandry records and documentation,

  • Complies with all relevant Federal, State, local, and institutional regulations, policies and guidelines related to animal husbandry  and lab safety

  • Performs or assists in histological and biochemical processing and analysis of biological tissue specimens, includes preparing solutions and materials (mixes, sterilizes and cleans).

  • Performs or assists in protein analysis such as western blots, immunoprecipitations, and proximity ligation assays.

  • Performs sophisticated immunostaining procedures, confocal microscopy, and structured illumination microscopy on tissues of interest.

  • Uses computer to analyze and plot results of experiments.

  • Organizes and maintains an inventory of lab supplies, instruments, and materials for laboratory operation and experimental procedures.

  • Maintains a schedule of laboratory usage and a detailed log of experimental procedures performed.

  • Helps train and supervise the activities of other full- or part-time laboratory research staff. Participates in training sessions for care and use of research animals and attends continuing education sessions as appropriate.


  • Ability to apply knowledge of histological and biochemical processing and analysis of biological tissue specimens, acquired through completion of either a BS/BA degree in biology or related field, (or equivalent training and experience) and neurobiological lab work.

  • Ability to operate histology and microscopy equipment; stereotaxic equipment, analog and digital equipment for generating signals, recording signals and processing data; equipment for mixing solutions; PC compatible computers and software.

  • Ability to operate light and electron microscopy, insitu hybridization, autoradiography, immunocytochemistry, image analysis systems, molecular biology, cell culture, and electrophysiology.

  • Ability to communicate concisely, both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to train and supervise activities of staff.

  • Good manual dexterity.

  • Close attention to details.

  • Ability to apply knowledge of the use and care of animals for research projects.


  • Bachelor's degree in biology or related field required.

  • Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) certification within 30 days of transfer or hire required.


  • Master's degree or equivalent combination of education, training and experience preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in neuroscience laboratory work or equivalent training, certification, and experience preferred.

  • Management and Strategy Institute(MSI)preferred.
