Lead Dietary Host

Assists patients with menu selections based on identified dietary needs, available meal choices, and a prescribed nutrition program/system. Prepares and serves food at an assigned location, while maintaining a clean and organized workspace. Leads host staff.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Leads host staff and assists them to ensure safety and sanitation standards are met in preparation and service areas; assists in training new employees.

  • Ensures that workplace is in accordance with Joint Commission and HACCP food safety policies and sanitization procedures for service and for clean-up, including washing of dishes and equipment.

  • Assists patients with making appropriate menu selections based on their identified dietary needs by utilizing the available meal choices and prescribed nutrition program.

  • Retrieves and documents patient food orders, prepares trays for service, delivers meal trays and other food related requests. Ensuring patient orders are accurate, complete, and in accordance with their dietary order.

  • Interacts with patients, families, and hospital staff in a friendly, welcoming, and professional manner.

  • Answers basic dietary and nutrition questions in relation to the available menu selections/options.

  • Sets up trays prior to meal service, ensuring quality, accuracy, and timeliness.

  • Reviews hospital food service inventory for par levels and expiration dates;  communicating to management to submit orders to allow for adequate supply to prepare hospital trays

  • Prepares and serves food, cleans, and sanitizes kitchen and equipment, and ensures proper food storage in assigned location.

  • Sanitizes and cleans kitchen and service area and dining room tables per daily, weekly, and monthly guidelines.

  • Ensures food is properly stored and handled and takes and records food temperatures as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of Federal Sanitation regulations concerning facilities, equipment, and utensils.

  • Knowledge of operation and maintenance of dish machine, ovens, steamers, slicers, freezers, and refrigeration.

  • Basic knowledge of nutrition and ability to learn about specialized menu requirements.

  • Ability to communicate in an articulate, professional manner.

  • Ability to multi-task while maintaining quality standards.

  • Strong verbal communication skills for positive interactions with patients.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of one year of experience including food services required.

  • Ability to read, write, and utilize a designated Nutrition Program system, under the direction of certified Registered Dietitian(s)required.

  • Available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on established work schedule required.

  • ServSafe Food Handlers certification within 120 days of transfer or hire required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
