Responsibilities:

Ensures timely and accurate insurance claim processing, queries third parties about payment delays, recommends changes or training to reduce errors and delays, and evaluates and resolves reimbursement issues.

  • Reviews and reconciles monthly billing reports to resolve any outstanding balances from third-party payers, resubmits claims if necessary, and pulls appropriate documentation to resolve balances; completes appropriate paperwork to conduct transactions on client accounts.
  • Performs periodic reviews of third-party payments to ensure contractual adjustments are correct; calls third-party payers in pursuit of prompt payment of claims.
  • Reviews denied claims and follows up with insurance carriers, guarantors, clinic personnel, and staff to obtain additional information or clarification to appeal claims and obtain maximum reimbursement.
  • Follows up on all secondary claims and files with appropriate documentation.
  • Works closely with Medicaid and insurance companies to ensure all authorizations are in place and client information is updated annually to ensure timely reimbursements.
  • Establishes and maintains rapport with clinical personnel to facilitate account resolutions.
  • Handles all statements calls and client account resolutions and works with clients and families to resolve billing or payment issues.
  • Works with Accounts Receivable, and posts payments to appropriate accounts as needed. Works monthly AR reports to keep account aging within prescribed limits.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 to 3 years of experience including mental health or medical billing.
  • Knowledge of medical billing practices and procedures, insurance terms, and reimbursement procedures.
  • High level of professionalism, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to communicate in an articulate, professional manner while maintaining necessary degree of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently in a collaborative environment, meet deadlines, and multi-task while maintaining quality standards.
