Advance Practice RN (Nurse Practitioner) /PA- Inpatient

Provides medical and procedural services for patients in the inpatient unit in collaboration with the attending physician/hospitalist.

Schedule: PT/24 hours/week/7AM-7PM.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Practices health promotion, health supervision, illness prevention and diagnosis, treatment, and management of common health problems and acute and chronic conditions including assessing patients, ordering diagnostic tests and therapeutic treatments, synthesizing and analyzing data, and applying advanced nursing principles.

  • May perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in collaboration with the attending physician.

  • Complies with all Nebraska statutes and regulations related to nurse practitioners.

  • Assists with research projects, as needed.

  • Participates in multidisciplinary rounds.

  • Works collaboratively with nursing staff, respiratory therapy staff, other departments to promote quality and safe patient care.

  • Provides input to policy/procedure development.

  • Participates in performance improvement activities.

  • Promotes professionalism within the healthcare team, other departments, families and patients.

  • Promotes a culture of safety and a non-punitive environment.

  • Other Duties: This job description incorporates the essential functions and duties required for this position. However, other duties may be required and assigned at times and as determined by a supervisor in order to meet the needs of the organization.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrate competence in providing direct patient care and patient and family education.

  • Communicate with patients, families and staff, and collaborate with other members of the health care team to enhance care.

  • Make assessments and problem solve.

  • Keep complete accurate records of all events and results of patient encounters in a timely manner.

  • Be a strong patient advocate.

  • Provides patient care and education according to the patient population served.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: APRN

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing required.

  • Licensed as an APRN-Nurse Practitioner in the State of Nebraska prior to start date required.

  • Current BLS certification required.

  • PALS certification required.

  • ACLS certification required.

  • Prior working knowledge of using a personal computer and electronic medical records required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: APRN

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a pediatric critical care setting preferred.
